The History of Sherpa Pet
Sherpa's Pet Trading Company is the founding brand behind Sherpa
Pet Group, a family of exceptional brands chosen for their unique
market segment. Dedicated to the style and quality that have made Sherpa Pet's Trading Company a cornerstone of the pet industry.

Gayle Martz started Sherpa's Pet Trading Company in 1990 after searching unsuccessfully for a pet carrier for her Lhasa Apso, Sherpa. She made it her
goal to create a stylish, functional product to enable people to travel
comfortably with their small companions. She designed and photographed
her product and then went to work. The inspiration had
begun, and the true beginning of a change in pet travel began.
Having
over 20 years of experience working with airlines, Gayle knew the challenges and stress of pet owners unable to have their pet in the cabin, so she set out to change the system.
Soon, pets were moving from cargo to first class and Sherpa was leading the charge!
Today, thanks to the efforts of Sherpa and others, many airlines have changed their policies to allow pets in the cabin. Sherpa became the first pet carrier to be recognized by major airlines, including Air Canada, Alaska, American, America West,
Continental, Delta, Northwest, United and US Airways. The Sherpa Bag is also now recommended for use by veterinarians, the ASPCA, the
Delta Society, Humane Society, and others.
