Important Notes
It is important to check with the air carrier, before your journey, to ensure that you have the proper documents. When traveling internationally, check with the airline and with the embassy to ensure that all requirements and paperwork are in place before departure.
Some airlines will not accept animals for carriage in passenger cabins as accompanied baggage, although some make an exception for service animals.
Carriers not listed may carry animals in passenger cabins under special conditions, as accompanied baggage.
Advance arrangements are mandatory for the carriage of animals on all segments of the journey.
Definitions:
- American Flag Carriers (a.k.a. 121 Carriers) are those U.S. owned airlines operating with a Certificate issued by the DOT, for transportation to/from and within the United States.
- Foreign Flag Carriers (a.k.a. 129 Carriers) are those airlines flying under the flag of their host countries, with rights to fly to and from the United States only, based on a Certificate issued by the DOT.
- Regional or Express Carriers: These small airlines, normally 50 seats or less, that operated under their own name or under a major carrier. For example, Trans States Airlines also operates as American Connection for American Airlines.

Virgin America does accept small pets in the Main Cabin of the aircraft.
Reservations are mandatory.
Pets in the Cabin:
- Only dogs and cats may be carried in the cabin.
- Pet Transportation Fee: $50.00 per one way direction, per pet.
- A pet confined to a container, will be accepted as long as the containers fits properly under the seat.
- The pet container must not be stored in front of an emergency exit row, and only one pet is allowed per container.
- There is no limit on the number of pets that may be carried in the cabin.
- Pets are not permitted in First Class due to limited space under the seats.
- A Veterinary Certificate dated within the last thirty (30) days, verifying that the animal's shots are current and that the animal is more than eight (8) weeks old must be presented.
- Virgin America does not accept pets of any kind as checked baggage or as cargo.
- Pet Carrier dimensions cannot exceed 18"L x 15"W x 8"H.
- The total combined weight of the pet and pet carrier cannot exceed 20 pounds and counts as one personal item within the carry-on baggage allowance.
- Pet carrier must have proper ventilation, a floor designed to absorb and retain solids or liquids, proper fabrication to prevent the escape or the pet(s) and prevent any part of the pet(s) from protruding and plenty of room for the pet to move freely in the carrier.
- Pets must stay in the carrier while onboard the aircraft and in the airport terminal.
- Small compatible pets may travel together in one kennel.
- Puppies and kittens must be at least 8 weeks old and weaned.
- Maximum of two puppies or two kittens less than 6 month old may travel in the same kennel.

WestJet does accept pets to travel in the passenger cabin.
Animals are not permitted in the cabin or in checked baggage on flights to Honolulu, Maui and Kona at any time due to strict quarantine regulations.
- One small companion pet (cat, dog, rabbit or bird only) can be stowed under the seat in front of the passenger.
- Kennel must be used and must be approved by WestJet at check-in.
- Check-in is a minimum of 2 hours prior to flight departure, as you may be required to accompany your pet through additional security screening prior to proceeding through passenger screening
- Service Fee: $50.00 CAD each way will be charged.
- Dimensions and Weight: Maximum dimensions permitted are:
- 17.5"W x 16"L x 8.5"H (44cmx40cmx21.5cm) soft-sided carriers only. Must be leak-proof. Must fit under the seat in front of you andf your pet must remain in the kennel at all times.
- Maximum weight is 22 lbs (10 kgs) including the animals and kennel combined.
- Soft-sided kennels designed for airline travel are accepted in the cabin, provided the animal is fully enclosed in the kennel.
- Note: Duffel bags, gym bags, other non-kennel or hard-sided kennels and other non-kennels will not be accepted.
- Pet must remain in the kennel and beneath the seat at all times.
WestJet assumes no responsibility for the care or feeding of pets while in transit. The limits of liability outlines on their Baggage Information Page apply to animals as well. These amounts ar not automatically payable but reflect the maximum compensation payable, as each claim is subject to roof of loss. Consequential damages such as loss of enjoyment, loss f companionship, inconvenience, etc. are not compensable.
